If you’re wondering how you can make it into the next wave of job openings, you’re not alone.
Job seekers are looking for work for tech jobs at a record pace, according to a new report by the Job Openings and Labor Turnaround Act.
Job openings in the US rose by a whopping 542,000 jobs in December, according the National Association of Technology Industries.
The numbers also surpassed the year-ago highs and were nearly double the rate from a year ago, according a recent report by Glassdoor.
Jobseekers were also looking for more tech jobs, which was a boon for employers in the technology sector, as hiring for those jobs is typically high.
For instance, there were more than 30.6 million new tech jobs last year, according LinkedIn, compared to just 6.6 in December.
The growth in tech job growth has been fueled by the fact that more companies are hiring for tech roles, according David L. Baker, CEO of the Institute for Information Technology Policy.
“If you have more companies investing in the digital skills that they are bringing to the table, then more people will be able to pursue these opportunities,” Baker told CNBC.
In fact, the tech sector has been growing steadily for the past several years, according Baker.
The tech sector was responsible for nearly 30 percent of the increase in employment in the tech industry from 2012 to 2017.
The sector has grown even faster than the economy as a whole, which has been adding jobs at an even faster pace.
More: The US tech sector is the largest employer in the country, according an analysis by the Brookings Institution.
According to the Labor Department, the US tech industry employs about 26.9 million people.
That includes 2.6 percent of Americans.
